Simply Southern Home & Garden :: Closet Desk Project

In my last post I mentioned wanting to do something with our office, and possibly free up some space in our home by turning a closet into a desk space.  I am SO excited that we accomplished that goal this weekend!  It was super fun and easy.  We used paint that we already had, our desk furniture and chair that we already had, a magnet board and shelves that we already had…you get the picture.  It was a DIY and re-purpose project!

We used some Ikea storage boxes that we already had and picked up a few more on Sunday.  I also added a few magazine organizers- I feel like between cooking, photography, Atlanta, and other Occasions magazines I could not make sense of them on the coffee table, and know they have a place.  We also needed a better mail station than the kitchen table, and now the mail has a place too!

This room used to be our guest bedroom.  We recently repainted it, but after we pulled everything out it just did not make sense to stay the guest room.  The bed is now in the old office and that rooms seems to make so much more sense since I have all my stuff in there as an extension of our bedroom anyway.

This morning we had our desk-top glass trimmed to size, so that will be what sits on top of the old door we use as a desk.  We hope to make this room a media room, or another place to hang out and watch television.  It will also still work as a place for guests to crash if needed.

David mentioned last night that we were only living in about 800 of the 1000 sq. ft. that we have in our home.  We rarely were even in the guest bedroom.  Now, we have made our home a space where we can live in all the rooms and really enjoy a room that was not used before.
