I have not been able to keep up with our garden posts as well as last year. We put everything in the ground, or in pots, and then we left for a month. Everything is still alive and prospering! We did a ton of clean up outside over the weekend, I shared the front door update earlier this week. After working all day I was VERY excited to relax in our serene backyard on Saturday afternoon!
As you can imagine with any project, they keep evolving. In our case…growing! So, by the time I was going to share something, everything had changed! First we did our patio, then we got all the parts in place: furniture, table, large pots, etc. I had a lot of fun potting flowers and veggies late April. This weekend a lot of things needed swapped, re-potted due to growth, and of course maintained.
We are SO HAPPY with our backyard! We have birds of all colors and sizes, tons of room for Mason to run, and places for Tess to chill…that is more her thing. The sun shines on the deck half the day and patio the other, so we have a fair amount of shade. As you see above, we have comfortable chairs on the deck, and a small table for outdoor dinners (still work on progress). Below, we have the fire pit, grill, and larger hang out space. We claimed a huge amount of outdoor living space by adding the patio. That area was previously dirt due to sod that did not take well and lots of doggie and human traffic.
I have a mix of annuals, perennials, a lime tree, and cucumber in pots back here. My hydrangea above has turned an interesting color of dark green, I am currently on a mission to change that back to the pretty periwinkle blue they were!
We are looking forward to another great cook-out here tonight, and many more to come. Our space is such a retreat from hectic, fast-paced city life. We are so blessed to have found a home with an amazing outdoor space.
